Homemade Nail Polish

My Nails of the day are inspired by cotton candy.  I don’t own a aqua, teal, or anything close to the color I needed, but I did have a eyeshadow pigment that was the exact color I was wanting.  So I decided to come up with my own DIY nail color.  It was pretty simple and I’m happy with the results.

What you need

  • Clear Nail Polish ( I used a bottle that was half gone)
  • Fine Color Pigment ( I used an eyeshadow pigment)
  • Small Funnel
  • Extra – If you want you could add in fine glitter if that’s the look your going for

All you need to do it mix the pigment into the clear nail polish and close the lid and shake.  Simple.  If you use less pigment you will have more of a translucent color and use more for a  brighter more opaque result.  With the aqua color I made above I only needed 2 coats to get a nice even result.

Colorful Polka Dot Nails

Help! My Nail Glue Lid is Glued Shut! What can I do?!…Who knows.  I have 3 that sit on my shelf glued shut.  I’ve tried just about everything.  If anyone has any awesome ideas to save my 3 other bottles let me know.

On the bright side I found nail glue for $1 at Dollarama. So I did some cute, quick and easy colorful polka dots.

Water Marble Nail Art

Pinterest Success!  I’ve been seeing all these awesome water marble nails popping up on pinterest.  The first time I tried them it was a fail.  Everything that could go wrong did.  So learning from my past mistakes I decided I would try again and this time I got better results.  Finished it off with one accent glitter nail.    Have fun with your nails :)

What You Need

  • 2 + more colors
  • Plastic Bowl
  • Tape or Vaseline
  • Room temperature water
  • Tooth pick

Quick run through

Prepare your nails.  I like to paint them white first to make the colors pop.

Than use tape around the skin of your nail to make sure you don’t get polish all over and believe me you can’t skip this step.  It WILL be a big mess.

Pick out your colors.  I picked pink & blue.

Fill up a plastic bowl with water that is room temperature.

open your polishes let one drop go into the water.  Don’t drop it from too high or it will just fall to the bottom of your bowl and won’t spread across the top of the water.  Take your second color and let another drop fall in the center to create a bulls eye.  Keep going until your satisfied.

Use a tooth pick to make a design in the polish.

Then dip your finger nail into the water.  The design should be stuck on your nail now.  Pull the tape off.  Wait for it to dry and put a top coat.

Tips

I first tried with some cheap no name dollar store nail polish.  It didn’t turn out.  It worked best with OPI & NYC.  I haven’t tried it with any other brands.

Don’t use nail polish that is too thick.  It won’t spread properly.

Make sure your water is room temperature.

Don’t take to long while putting the drops in the water.
